Shelter

City shelters.
Refugee camps.
Sleeping bags
under exit ramps.

Newspaper blankets.
Dumpster scraps.
Boarded up building
fire traps.

So many people
sorely displaced
by all the misfortunes
they must have faced.

Children and elders.
The silent and loud.
The ill and lost.
The battered and proud.

Where are the leaders
of wealthy nations,
when helpers rely
on small donations?
